Contact : info@strickland08.com July 21, 2008 Chris Strickland Declares Support for Speaker Change (Hall County) ? Chris Strickland has declared his support for the challenge to Georgia Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson?s leadership post. David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) has declared his intent to compete for the coveted position. ?I will support any North Georgia Representative, Republican or Democrat, that challenges Speaker Richardson,? Strickland stated. ?The House Leadership is broken.? Strickland is running against James Mills (R-Chestnut Mountain) for a House seat that represents South Hall County, including Chestnut Mountain, Flowery Branch, Oakwood and part of Gainesville. Mills has been non-committal on the attempted leadership coup, insisting that he is more focused on his re-election campaign than deciding the future leadership of the Georgia House of Representatives. ?This is the latest example of Mills being unable to make a policy decision without taking marching orders from House leadership. In this case, he can?t take a stand, because he doesn?t want to be caught on the losing side of an important issue,? Strickland said. ?Our 16 year incumbent can?t declare his support until he knows which way the political winds are blowing.? Strickland stated that he believes a change in leadership is necessary. ?The current Speaker is devoted to partisanship, not effective leadership. I want effective leadership for the state of Georgia, and I?ll vote for a change regardless of political affiliation.? Strickland continued, ?And I?ll state my position now, rather than wait for marching orders like our current incumbent.? # # # |
